What Are The Purpose Of School Electives?
"The purpose of these courses is to provide opportunities for improvement in student self-development through the study of specific subject areas. The content should include, but not be limited to, exploration of basic principles, concepts, processes, knowledge of subject areas to which the student is exposed, and specific content based on selected intended outcomes from existing courses." -Tequesta Trace MS
"Elective courses give students the chance to take classes outside of a prescribed plan of coursework. This lets students pursue other interests they may have, giving them a more "well-rounded" education. These electives also let students find subjects that might interest them and change the direction they wish to take with their education." -WiseGeek

"School electives can keep a student grounded and give them lessons in responsibility."
Electives are a students main base of "fun" at school. If we keep school electives, students will still have those few periods of free time to let loose and be around kids their age who enjoy the same interests as them.
Electives take a lot of time and emotional investment to keep going. Schools don't have to fund every part of the electives. Each elective could have their own personal fundraisers, like benefit concerts for the musical arts or an art walk for art classes. Hopefully, we can keep our electives and keep having fun in schools!
